[2024 - 2025 Semester 2 Official Meeting: Meeting 3]

Date: 15 April 2025, Friday

Duration: 13-15 - 13:55

Topic: Science Presentation (Physics)

Since the Science Club was cancelled last Friday due to the SVC drawing competition, this week we caught cup by sharing the presentations that each team had been preparing over the past two weeks.

First up, JJ, Jiwon, and Paul’s team gave a presentation on Schrödinger’s cat. They presented on the famous thought experiment in quantum physics, where a cat is sealed in an opaque box with a mechanism that has a 50% chance of releasing a deadly poison.

The strange part is that until the box is opened, the cat is both alive and dead at the same time. Can quantum mechanics like this really apply in the macro level or only limited to the microscopic level. Definitely, this was a complex topic, it left the scince club (me included) wishing to dig deeper into the mysteries of quantum theory.

Next, Joel, Joey, Sua, and Yeeun’s team gave a presentation about black holes. Their explanation on black hole tells its ability of pulling in everything around it—even light! Also, they also introduced another concept called a white hole, which supposedly spits matter out instead. But according to scientists, white holes are just a theoretical concept and probably don’t exist in real life. How fascinating is that?! Presentations like these remind us why we love and appreciate the mysteries that surround us.
