[2023 - 2024 Semester 2 Official Meeting: Meeting Day 4]

Updated: May 22, 2024

Date: 15 March 2024, Friday

Duration: 13:15 - 13:55

Topic: Science TMI & Preparation on Science Presentation (Chemistry)

It has been a while since we have done our Science TMIs so this week Paul presented on the chemistry behind fireworks. When an electron absorbs energy it becomes in it excited state, which causes the electron to move to a higher energy level. When the electron eventually returns to a lower level it releases energy in electromagnetic radiation that includes photons, detectable to the human eye. Thus we can detect the immense spectrum of colors during a fireworks show.

After listening to Paul's TMI, our science club spent the rest of the time discussing with club members on their science project and finalizing planning on what they are going to present.
